IT now accounts for roughly 4 % of global CO₂ emissions — more than the aviation industry. As software professionals, we have both the opportunity and the responsibility to make our digital solutions more sustainable. But what does “green software development” really mean in practice? In this session, we’ll explore how you can design, build, and run cloud solutions on Microsoft Azure that actively reduce their environmental footprint. You’ll discover how architectural choices, coding practices, and deployment models directly influence energy consumption and emissions — and how to measure and improve them using Azure’s sustainability tooling.

Sander Molenkamp is a principal cloud architect and Microsoft Azure MVP with over 25 years of professional experience. Sander is also an accomplished speaker, having shared his insights and expertise at numerous international conferences. He is passionate about technology and freely shares his knowledge through the dotnetFlix YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/dotnetflix). Furthermore, Sander actively contributes to the organization of multiple free community events, including the Dutch Azure Meetup, Azure Fest, and Bitbash.
